Some people wonder why I bother sticking around DeviantArt. Well, it's because I like some of the art I find, and it's nice to be able to give the people responsible for it words of praise and some recognition. I used to like it for posting my work, because hey, free space that comes with other options. And I don't have to code it! I haven't posted much for a while, though, since the submission system has been turned into a nitpicky piece of shit, and several of the moderators are uppity retards.

DeviantArt used to have standards, but now it seems any talentless hack or attention-whore can post whatever they want and not have to worry about getting in trouble for some time. It's fairly common nowadays to see some asshole submit a tracing of an anime screenshot, or a picture of videogame character clipped from an ad. Of course, said asshole claims it's a 3D render, a drawing that took hours, or a vector. Then a bunch of idiots come along and think "OH MY, WHAT TALENT!" and smother the "artist" with praise and pageviews. There are some attention-whores who are a little smarter than this, and actually submit their own work to get pageviews. Normally, such works get several pageviews and favorites, but don't get a Daily Deviation award (i.e. displayed in a section near the bottom of the page used to help artists get some recognition).

I didn't think a fake-looking photo of a partly butchered dog hanging from meat hooks would ever get a Daily Deviation. But, that photo sits in the Daily Deviation section. Why? Because some twat figured that a photographer would rarely take a picture of such a subject, and that the photo raised lots of questions. Said twat suggested this photo become a Daily Deviation. A moderator agreed and gave the photo DD status. People are now flocking to this picture like fanboys swarm another shitty Final Fantasy game. A majority of the people that give feedback on this photo comment on how thought-provoking and amazing it is, and how the artist, Blazko had guts to take it and submit it to DA.

What a huge bag of bullshit. It's not really thought-provoking. For fuck's sake, people eat veal, lamb, and rabbit. How do you think THEY get butchered? The photo's not amazing at all. It looks like a videogame screenshot, or the artist tried to pretty it up too much. Yeah, it does take guts to photograph things like this; however, some photographers take pictures of FAR worse things, but they don't submit them to DA, or ask people to favorite them and share them. The only thing that's amazing about Blazko's photo is that he's actually trying to make money off of it by selling prints. I'm sure some people have already bought it, because hanging prints of butchered animals around your home is a neat idea!

If you want a photo that's thought-provoking and raises lots of questions, go find hello.jpg, aka goatse. How does one stretch out his cornhole that much? Who is the man in the photo? Who is he married to? Who took the photo? How many people have seen this photo and not been disgusted by it? How many people HAVEN'T seen this photo? Is it fake? Has it ever been submitted to DA?

That is all.

I remember way back in the day when deviantart was where you went if you wanted assholes to ridicule you and your artwork until you become an accountant or investment manager, whichever one is furthest from being an artist.

Now you just get banned or blacklisted if you don't immediately become a mindless fantard and praise every crappy tracing on there within seconds of its posting! Kind of like GameFAQs, really.
